How to Improve Your Eyesight Holistically
Can You Really Improve Your Eyesight to 20/20 Naturally?
In Short, Yes! These techniques have been used for centuries, oftentimes being called by many different names but the results are the same – Greatly Improved Eyesight and many times 20/20 vision.
There are three major techniques that will make your optometrist’s office visits virtually obsolete; Palming, Sunning, The Swings. These are part of the Dr. Bates Method for holistic ocular health. You can learn these within 20 minutes and begin applying them right now while you’re seated here in your chair.
Step 1: Palming
Palming is a very relaxing and healing technique that is the core of many energy healing modalities, like Quantum Touch, Reiki, and Therapeutic Touch to name a few. Kirilan photography, biomagnetics and acupuncture tests have proven that there is an abundance of healing energy in specific areas, particularly the palms, fingers and feet. When you combine this with relaxation and intention, the healing effects can be powerfully felt.
Here are the basics of Palming and how you can use it right now to relieve ocular stress and tension and begin to improve your eyesight immediately:
- Sit or lie down and cup your hands over your eyes, blocking out as much light as possible and not putting any pressure on the eyes
- With your palms or cupped hands over your eyes, open your eyes and look around in a 360 degree movement, adjusting your hands if any light is present to make it as dark as possible
- Take a few deep, calm breaths and feel your eyeballs and eye sockets completely relaxing…
- Continue feeling the warmth from your hands enter and relax your whole eye area
- Do this for 5 minutes the first time, and as many times per day as convenient for you
This has amazing healing results, as it is not only relaxing to the muscles of your eyes but we do have energy centers in our palms and fingers that are very powerful healing tools. It’s what most energy healers begin with, and mastering this one thing you may be tempted to try it on other body parts (or loved ones and pets). When you get do this with confidence and intention, you will see remarkable results.

You can even combine this with sun gazing for long-term healing results.
Step 2: Sunning for Healthy Eyesight
The best source of light for sunning (which is what sun gazing is) is the sun of course, but some people may find that too intense to begin with. A table lamp with a 60-100 watt light bulb, natural light or full-spectrum lights or bulbs are preferred as they are much more healing for your eyes.
You will want to find a comfortable position to do this in, ideally seated or lying down on a couch if inside, or lawn chair if outside. Although this method is listed second, it is recommended that you do this first and palming second, but is listed in this order because palming is the easiest to do anywhere.
In sunning, the eyes are closed throughout
So, close your eyes, and slowly direct the light to your face. If there is any discomfort, it means the light is too close and too bright at first. One of the key things to look for is any sign of pain or strain coming into the muscles around the eyes. What I want to encourage you to do, is to go so slowly that at no point do you experience “too much”. So, go slowly. If you feel comfortable, you can bring the light closer, until it feels like a pleasant warmth all over your face.
|Think of a point far in the distance (imaginary horizon) Imagine where your nose is pointing to, and imagine you are looking in that direction (eyes are still closed, but if they opened, would be gazing toward that far point).|
|Turn your head gently from side to side As you turn, each eye goes into the shade. This movement is slow and steady, taking about 3 seconds or so to move from the left to the right (or the right to the left).|
Keep in touch with the point
As you turn your head, keep in touch with the point that your nose is directed toward – this will of course be moving across your imaginary horizon, but the relationship to your sight will still be in the same place, thus your eyes and head move together. Do this for about 5 minutes. Always do your palming immediately following sunning as it prepares your eyes and brings them back into proper focus. It also works synergistically as expedites the healing response and better vision.
Step 3 – The Swings
There are five types of swings that are holistic exercises that can drastically improve circulation and oxygenation to your brain and eyes. This is the icing on the cake for not only improving your eyesight naturally, but also powerful stress relief. The types of eyesight improving swings are:
- The Long Swing
- The Prayer Swing
- The Optical Swing
- The Drifting Swing
We’ll discuss the basic Long Swing and show you a live demonstration so you can get started with it immediately.
The Long Swing
Begin standing with your feet shoulder width apart and gently rock yourself from side to side. Allow each heel to lift from the floor in turn, and then start to turn your upper body in the direction of your sway, keeping the head and shoulders moving together as one. This means, that as you rock toward your left foot, turn your upper body to face that direction, then as you rock toward your right foot, turn your upper body to face that direction, to the right.
At this point you should find it reasonably comfortable to turn about 45 degrees to the left and 45 degrees to the right of your center. Bring your attention to your heels. Let your heels turn a little further out. This should provide considerable ease with the turning from the top of your body – so that it becomes possible to turn to a full 180 degrees range of movement – 90 degrees to the right and left without discomfort of any kind.
