Huna – Hawaiian Kahuna Magic

What is Huna?

Huna is a Hawaiian word meaning “secret or hidden wisdom.” It is also called Hawaiian Kahuna Magic, as it is practiced by a master Kahuna or Wise One. To Hawaiians it is not a religion per se, but a way of looking at and understanding life itself. It is a deep fundamental understanding that all things, including thoughts, ideas and concepts are energy at their most basic level. They also teach that all energy is connected in a web of knowingness , that the western world may understand as the collective unconscious.
According to the practice of Huna, it is imperative to understand what this energy is, how it works, and how can we harness it for our creative purposes, like healing or manifesting our deepest desires. It is a very tight theory of everything or TOE, that can bring not only understanding of our plight, but more importantly, how we can live a life of inspired purpose – overflowing with happiness and abundance on all levels of our existence.
Some of the principles in the movie “the secret” and in the “law of attraction” teachings are explaining the same core teachings of Huna. There are many flavors or lineages of Huna that can vary locally as to specific details, but they all agree on the core components and understanding of the energy mechanics that underlie it. It was brought to the west by a great Kahuna (or great Huna) named
Max Freedom Long. He was studying all the major religions and philosophies to see which had the most practical value for understanding life and performing daily miracles. He was followed in the west by Serge Kahili King, who brought us some of the magical teaching as well as the powerful healing techniques that are used to promote deep healing, even mending broken bones in moments instead of weeks or months.
There are many disciplines of Huna like Ho’omana (which deals with the creation of the material world out of energy) and Ho’oponopono (which teaches us how to clear our energy imprint or karma, so we can be in the ready state to receive our desires into our experiences.) These are very important core teachings that you can begin even without undertaking the “whole enchilada” called Huna. I recommend that you start with Hooponopono because that primes you to make best use of Huna or every other spiritual path, and is the quickest way from where you are to where you want be!
Here are the seven commonly agreed principles of Huna:
- Ike – The world is what you think it is
- Kala – There are no limits
- Makia – Energy flows where attention goes
- Manawa – Now is the moment of power
- Aloha – Living unconditional love
- Mana – All power comes from within
- Pono – Effectiveness is the measure of truth
Ike – The world’s what you think it is:
How you believe and perceive your world to be, is how you are going to experience it, plain and simple. We experience life through our beliefs, thoughts, senses and emotions. What we believe or think – is our filter or the color we place on our seeing glasses, and we can only see what is not blocked out by the coloring of our lenses. What you believe about your world and environment directly controls what hormones your body produces at any given time. If you believe or think you’re in for a rough day, your body responds instantly and produces the stress hormones that will Make It That Way for you! You often hear about the law of attraction and the concept of “like attracts like,” and that is just what is happening here.
What you believe spiritually, is what will be passed down to your thoughts, and that will be passed down to your emotions, and that will be passed down to your body, and that will be what you experience in your life. We need to do a little ANT Busting (Automatic Negative Thoughts). Challenge yourself and your beliefs. See if they are even yours. Many times they are what was taught to us and reinforced over our entire youth, but may not even be true for us. Broaden your perspective and see if it works for fits for you. Open up your mind to allow all possibilities and you open up your life to experience this new expanded level of awareness. Like will attract like.
Kala – There are no limits: The only limits to our experience are what we accept and place upon ourselves. Nobody can do it for us. We are the master and creator of our experience. Huna, as well as quantum physics teaches that our world is made up on a grid of possibilities, that all things are possible to them that believe, to take a quote from the christian bible. This is where science and spirituality meet. You make the rules, and only you can change those rules. If you learn to deepen your perspective on life, and begin to shake off your limiting beliefs and thoughts, you will experience all that you desire, because it’s all there as potential, but you have to know the rules of the game so to speak.
Learning Huna and working with the energy is definitely a way that you can do that. NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming shows us that the person in the room with the most options will be the most successful person in the room. So, if you expand your awareness to include all possibilities, you increase the speed at which what you desire can come into your experience. If your options are limited, then they can only come through them, and you substantially lengthen the time to experience your desires.
Makia – Energy flows where attention goes: Your thoughts are packets of energy, an actual measurable photon that will move where the person holding the consciousness directs it. If your attention is scattered, so will be the energy you are emitting and will experience the scattered life that you asked for by sending that type of energy. A laser and standard light bulb can have the same energy potential and usage, but while a light bulb scatters light in all directions, a laser will focus it into single photon order which can burn through metal because of the strength of focused energy.
If the “light” comes on for you on this concept, it can change the way you create your life quickly and powerfully. By focusing your thoughts into a single purpose at a time, the vibration you are sending out will be powerful and undeniable as to your intentions and ultimately what you will be creating in your life experience.
Manawa – Now is the moment of power: The only moment you will ever experience is now. Projecting the future or recalling the past happens in the now, in the present moment that you are doing it. The experience of time is an illusion, albeit a persistent one Albert Einstein once said. It is a useful illusion when we are in our ordinary consciousness level on our rotating and revolving planet. Outside of that, it appears to slow down, stop or even reverse! Remember, it only Appears to do so, it does not in actuality.
In all areas of the universe now is the only concept of time that we can ever fully experience. Eckhart Tolle teaches the same thing. He says that our “point of power” is in the now. When we meditate we bring our focus to the now, to contemplate and create in the now, what we will experience in the next moment now’s that will unfold in front of us continually. When you bring your focus fully and completely into the now, you have great power. You will be able to create the life of your desires, and fully experience peace and happiness. It is your birthright!
Aloha – Living unconditional love: Aloha can mean “hello,” “goodbye,” or even “love” in the Hawaiian language. When someone says Aloha to you they are literally blessing you with love. It is the most powerful form of focused energy in the universe and when we can learn to think, act and feel from this level is when we will discover eternal peace and eternal bliss – all at the same time – the now! Near death researchers and psychologists who deal with patients and describe what happens to the consciousness of the people who leave the physical body for any period of time, have some astonishing tips for us. The biggest one is…. “forgive everyone, everything.”
Bless everyone, and love everything and everyone, because what surrounds all life is a conscious sea of love to which we will return when we are finished here. Not only will it make YOU feel better as scientists have shown that whatever you project to another your body experiences the feelings and creates the associated neurochemicals and hormones that will affect how you feel, how you look and how healthy you are. When you bless someone instead of curse them, you are the beneficiary as well as them. Like attracts like, so if you send out hate or disorder, you also receive it – from yourself.
Mana – All power comes from within: Mana is the lifeforce energy that we store internally that allows us to have an animated and active physical body. It is called “chi” in the Chinese culture, “prana” in the Indian culture, and “spirit” in the western societies. When this Mana leaves our body, our body will return to the earth and decay continuing the physical cycle of life, while our spirit or consciousness will go where it needs to next. This can depend upon our beliefs, even here. If we practice spirituality while in a physical body, we will know exactly where we would like to go. If we ignore this aspect of ourselves, we may be confused and try to hang around the physical plane for a long time (as a ghost). The more we learn to store and use this energy, the healthier and happier we will become.
We can use it for creative purposes, inspirational purposes or even healing purposes. This energy is really who we are and Huna can show us how to draw and harness this energy for whatever purpose we would like to use it for. This is the vehicle through which we travel throughout our universe, particularly in our dream state, as you will notice if you have an exciting dream and your wake up with your heart pounding, or extremely happy if you had a positive energy experience. This energy is fully in your control. Learn to attract it, store it, use it and give it to others and you will have a very happy fulfilled and creative inspired life. Huna will show you how to do this very effectively.
Pono – Effectiveness is the measure of truth: This is the “Science of What Works” for you. What is effective for you, will be your truth. This is a relative truth, one that may be effective for you, but not as effective for another. We are all at different levels of experience and understanding, so we are not yet there on some things and have mastered others. There are as many ways to do anything as there are people to do them. What this discipline will teach you is how to discover where you are and what works for you, so you can be on the path to your desires and goals, the one that works for you. It is wise to learn many philosophies and ways of looking at life, and fitting them to suit your tastes and desires.
Be open to everything, if it does not work for you, set it aside. When you discover something that really works for you, show it off and keep it with you at all times as a testimony of a happy successful experience. Be open to the universe and the universe will open up to you too. As Wayne Dyer so eloquently says: “when you change the way you look at things, and the things that you look at will change. If you want your outer circumstances to change today, then start changing the way you look at them and reinvent yourself and your life today!
